Electromagnetic actuators: transform the information in controlled motion

Measuring is the first step of an intelligent system; act is the outcome. After acquiring, analyzing and interpreting the information from the sensors, it becomes essential to control the physical organs capable of modifying the machine condition. This function is ensured by electromagnetic actuators, real interfaces between the digital world and mechanical phenomena.

For more than thirty years, XAP has been designing electronic architectures intended to control critical equipment in environments where reliability tolerates no compromises. Inherited from very high level motorsport, this expertise extends today to special vehicles, drones, energy systems, industry, naval as well as to defense applications. The systems developed by XAP allow to precisely control a very wide variety of actuators: power relays, solenoid valves, high voltage contactors, electric motors, pumps, fans, cylinders, electromagnetic clutches, electric brakes, hydraulic or pneumatic valves, linear and rotating actuators.

The goal is not just to power up equipment, but to guarantee a perfectly controlled piloting. Each command is monitored, secured, timestamped and integrated into a global control-command logic. The electronic cards developed by XAP thus ensure the generation of control signals, control of currents, detection of electrical faults, monitoring of energy consumption as well as permanent verification of the proper functioning of the actuators. This approach allows to anticipate anomalies, improve the availability of systems and significantly strengthen their operational security.

XAP solutions support both all-or-nothing controls and high-precision proportional controls. Outputs can be configured to directly control relays, solenoid valves or motors, or control external power stages depending o the application. Control strategies incorporate advanced functions such as PWM modulation, acceleration ramp control, current limiting, position holding, sequential control and safety procedures that enable an automatic return to a safe state in the event of a fault.

This expertise in actuators is particularly evident in the power architectures developed by XAP. In particular, the systems control high-voltage power relays, pre-charge boards, battery contactors, emergency cut-off devices, cooling systems, circulation pumps, compressors, power converters and safety components integrated into electric powertrains. Each action is verified via feedback to confirm that the command issued has been successfully executed, in accordance with the requirements of critical architectures. This closed-loop control philosophy forms one of the cornerstones of the energy management systems and ElectroBoxes developed by XAP.

Applications now cover an extremely broad spectrum. In motor sport, actuators control, in particular, gear-change systems, electric pumps, fans, pneumatic solenoid valves and engine management systems. In electric vehicles, they control high-voltage contactors, cooling systems and safety functions. In the field of drones, they control opening mechanisms, release systems, safety devices and mission equipment. In industrial settings, they are used to automate specialised machinery, production lines, material-handling equipment and process control systems.

Beyond the hardware, XAP also develops software to configure, diagnose and supervise actuators. Each output can be set individually, integrated into complex scenarios, synchronized with sensor data or remotely controlled via telemetry infrastructures.Events, operating states, power consumption and any faults are recorded to support predictive maintenance, performance analysis and traceability functions. This digital continuity, which links software decisions to physical actions, is one of XAP’s technological hallmarks.

Electromagnetic actuators are no longer mere power organs. They become intelligent components, perfectly integrated with modern electronic architectures, capable of dialogue with the whole system, to participate in the functional safety of the machine and to contribute to the overall optimization of its performance. By combining embedded electronics, real-time control, energy management and software supervision, XAP offers a complete approach to industrial actuation, suitable for the most demanding systems.

E-Shift XAP solutions provide quick, reliable and integrable box control with modern vehicle architectures.

Integrate the order into the vehicle
